Angola

These 101 maps and 42 sounds cover all Angola. They are split into two floppy-disk-sized EXE for ease of moving between PC. Most important files are in ANGOLA.EXE, including a demonstration in ANGOLA.NME and a file holding approximate (about 1 mile) positions of over 15250 villages in ANGOLA.GTX - for copying to $LPOP.GTX. Please do not rely on these maps, or GPS, for navigation in remote areas. The data is for Alf Robinson, his friends, and anyone else with a GPS here.

Azores

These 6 maps and 36 sounds are for Paulo Jorgo Melo Santos, and anyone else on this islands using GPSS with a GPS. A demonstration is in AZORES.NME - please take care, not relying on GPS or these maps for navigation.

Benin

These 14 maps and 7 sounds are for Joseph, and anyone else in Benin using GPSS with a GPS. A demonstration is in BENIN.NME. Over 6350 village locations are in BENIN.GTX, suitable for copying to $LPOP.GTX and access with the P key. Please take care, not relying on GPS or these maps for navigation.

Botswana

These 40 maps and 21 sounds cover all Botswana. A desktop demo is available under Control-A BOTSWANA.NME. BOTSWANA.GTX may be copied to $LPOP.GTX and/or GPSS.GTX and contains the locations of 510 towns and villages. So you can search for a place by name and be guided there, or find out in what direction the nearest population centre is - and how far. But please do not rely on these maps or GPS for navigation in remote areas. The data is for Andrew Read, his friends, and anyone else with GPS.

Cape Verde Islands

Egypt - updated 9th May 2001

74 maps and 30 sounds covering all Egypt. This replaces the very old data holding only 3 maps. A demonstration, driving from Alexandria, through Cairo to Aswan is in EGYPT.NME. This mapping is not detailed, but is at least "better than nothing", and is "free" for use with GPSS. e.g. it will be on all future "Free" GPSS CDROMs which support both GPSS in-car navigation and remote tracking, as on CHASE Page

Three maps of Cairo, down to street level, with a demonstration in CAIRO.NME showing landmarks like, "we are near British Embassy, on our right". CAIRO.GTX contains positions and names of 5528 villages around Cairo, suitable for copying to $LPOP.GTX. More help is welcome to test and make this mapping more accurate. Robin is grateful to Emidio for his help with this mapping, which is available for free use by all GPSS users.

Ethiopia

These 92 maps and 29 sounds covering all Ethiopia were uploaded for Akalu who was the first to register GPSS from Ethiopia. This mapping is for use by anyone using GPSS or GPSSppc for the Pocket PC. ETHIOPIA.EXE self-extracts into 92 GPSS maps covering all of Ethiopia. 29 sounds are used to give spoken position relative to major towns. A demonstration is in ETHIOPIA.NME for playback with Ctrl-A Analysis. A file of population centres is in ETHIOPIA.GTX to replace the UK towns in $LPOP.GTX for access with the P key in GPSS or "population centres" in GPSSppc for Pocket PC. These places appear as yellow dots on the maps. Please Take Care and do not rely on this mapping or GPS for navigation.

Iran

These 19 maps and sounds covering most of Iran are for Aram Yeritsian, Saeid, their friends, and any other peace-loving GPS users in the country.

TEHRAN.EXE below provides 4 street level maps of Tehran, with verbal description of position relative to landmarks such as the University, Railway Station, etc. A (poor) demonstration is in TEHRAN.NME

IRAN2.EXE below provides 94 maps covering all Iran, missed by IRAN.EXE above.

Iraq

41 maps and 24 sounds covering all Iraq. $LPOP.GTX holds approximate locations of over 13,000 villages, accurate to about 1 mile. IRAQ.NME holds a demonstration for replay with Control-A facilities. PLEASE DO NOT RELY ON THIS MAPPING. This data may contain inaccuracies and it is highly improbable that it will be of any military value to either side in any conflict, which now seems likely. However, it is hoped that, in the absence of any alternative, GPSS and this mapping may provide some assistance to humanitarian missions such as those by the red cross and red crescent.

The above was written and uploaded in January 2003. Since then Iraq has been occupied by American, British and other forces. History will tell if this will solve more problems than it created, including the suffering of many people and the damage to confidence in our western governments. We can only hope that Iraq will become a more peaceful and prosperous nation than it has been in recent years. These downloads are for experimental use by Mohammad, his friends, and any other peace-loving individuals of any nationality. BASRA.EXE includes two street level maps of Basra and a demonstration in BASRA.NME. The 5 sounds, for landmarks like the bridge and motorway junction, are poor quality but will probably be replaced* - maybe in arabic. We hope to improve this data in the future after GPS testing by those who register GPSS after testing on a Laptop PC connected to a GPS. Whatever your nationality, and whether civilian or soldier, my best wishes are with you for your safety and a peaceful end to this conflict.

Below are the links to download mapping of Baghdad: 10 maps and 7 sounds for landmarks such as the university and hospital. More may be added after testing with GPS by Raaed, his friends, and other peace-loving people using GPSS in Baghdad. A demonstration is in BAGHDAD.NME for those who do not have GPSS running with a GPS.

7 Maps and 22 sounds covering Israel and surrounding countries, with more detail in Tel Aviv. A gazetteer of 3227 towns and villages, over all Israel is in ISRAELPO.GTX, which may be copied to GPSS.GTX and/or $LPOP.GTX. This is for Amir Ahoroni, David Shmueli, their friends, and anyone with a GPS here. This data was updated 21st December 1999. A demonstration is in TELAVIV.NME. Take Care all of you.

Kenya

KENYA.GTX has 2998 village locations, suitable to be copied to GPSS.GTX and/or $LPOP.GTX - but only accutate to about 1 mile. A demonstration is in KENYA.NME. This more detailed map of Nairobi, and 14 sounds to describe position relative to well known landmarks, was calibrated with the help of Yoshikazu Honda and his GPS. A demonstration is in NAIROBI.NME and the real GPS data in YOSHI1.NME. Please take care 'on the road'.

Kuwait (upgraded on 1st February 2005)

4 maps and 6 sounds covering all Kuwait. A demonstration is in KUWAIT.NME

Lebanon

3 maps and 22 sounds covering all Lebanon. A desktop demonstration is under Control-A LEBANON.NME REPLAY. This data is for use by Osman Hani El-Baba, Roger Karam, their friends, and anyone else with GPS in this country.

This data is for Karen Thomas and those who fly in Hot Air Balloons.

Madagascar

These 50 maps and 34 sounds cover the entire island of Madagascar.

Mauritius and Reunion

3 maps and 17 sounds covering these two countries. A demonstration is in MAURITIU.NME and MAURIREU.GTX holds locations (accurate to about 1 mile) of 805 towns and villages - suitable for copying to $LPOP.GTX

Morocco

These 33 maps and 28 sounds covering Morocco are for Xavia, his friends, and anyone else in Morocco with GPS. A demonstration is under Control-A MOROCCO.NME REPLAY. Please take care when using GPSS on the road. Do not rely on GPS or these maps for navigation.

Namibia (updated 26 January 1999)

These 74 maps (originally 5, uploaded in December 1997) and 15 sounds cover all Namibia. They are for Riaan van der Colf, Peter Daub, their friends and others using GPSS. Please do NOT rely on GPS or these non-detailed maps for navigation in remote areas, including whether there is water where shown. The file NAMIBIA.GTX holds the approximate location (within about 2 km ?) of over 2300 towns and villages, and may be copied to GPSS.GTX and $LPOP.GTX. Note that the 1 MB download is highly compressed, and will expand into over 12 MB of data, including the 74 BMP files.

Nigeria

These 63 maps and 31 sounds cover all Nigeria, and are for use by Bode Oshodi, his friends, and anyone using GPS in this country. Please do not rely on these maps, or GPS, as your only means of navigation. Take care Bode !

This detailed map of Lagos was made with the help of Robin's friend Bilal, who you will find on the GPSS Partners page. A demonstration is in lagos.nme and landmarks include the Eko Hotel and Bar Beach.

Oman

These 31 maps and 23 sounds are for Geoff Hart, his friends, and anyone else here with GPS. A demonstration is in OMAN.EXE. The file OMAN.GTX holds the locations of 2835 villages, and may be copied to $LPOP.GTX so that hitting P followed by enter will find nearest one. Can also search by name. Please do not rely on these maps or GPS for navigation.

3 maps and 13 sounds covering Qatar for Per Arne Auestadt, his friends, and others with GPS here. Locations and names of 270 villages are in QATAR.GTX suitable for copy to $LPOP.GTX. A demonstration is in QATAR.NME

Saudi Arabia

These 127 maps and 31 sounds cover all the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
They are for Tokay Or, his friends, and anyone here with a GPS.
You will need 20 MB of hard disk space to hold all the data. The important files including 60 maps across the middle of the country, is held on the first download. A second download provides the remaining 67 maps. SAUDIARA.GTX may be copied to GPSS.GTX and/or $LPOP.GTX. It holds locations of 4412 towns and villages. A demonstration is in SAUDIARA.NME.

Senegal, Gambia and Guinea Bissau

These 20 maps and 15 sounds were uploaded for Dr Mamadou Khouma, the first person to register GPSS from Senegal. A demonstration is in SENEGAL.NME. There are not many places in SENEGAL.WAW but it is not too difficult to add more. See addmaps.htm page. Please do not rely on GPS or these maps for navigation.

Sierra Leone

These 11 maps and 23 sounds were uploaded for David de la Haye, his friends, and anyone using GPSS in Sierra Leone. A demonstration is in SIERRALE.NME. A file of towns and villages is in SIERRALE.GTX suitable for replacing the UK data in $LPOP.GTX - for P hotkey. More towns could be added into SIERRALE.WAW for spoken description of position, but please take care where you take the positions from. NONE OF THESE MAPS ARE TO BE RELIED UPON.

South Africa - updated April 2008

These 16 maps and 21 sounds cover all South Africa, and are for use by Colin Nelson, Kelvin Owen, Paul Armstrong and friends in this region. More detailed maps may be added in the future.

Syria

Tanzania

These 75 maps and 18 sounds cover all of Tanzania, and were uploaded forSteven Holmes, the first to register GPSS from here. They are for free use with GPSS. Please do not rely on these maps or GPS for navigation in remote areas.

Tunisia

These 21 maps and 20 sounds cover all Tunisia. They are for Oscar Hernandez, his friends, and others taking part in the TRANSLIBYA 99 4x4 rally. A demonstration is in TUNISIA.NME and the file TUNISIA.GTX holds the approximate location of over 3800 towns and villages. The TUNISIA.WAW file uses this same data, saying 'population centre' but displaying the village name. Please take care everyone - remember that GPS and this data are no substitute for good paper maps.

Uganda

These 24 maps and 12 sounds cover all Uganda. They are for Jeroen*, his friends, and anyone using GPSS or GPSSppc here. A demonstration is in UGANDA.NME and the file UGANDA.GTX holds the approximate location of over 12,000 towns and villages. UGANDA.GTX may copied to replace the UK Population Centres in $LPOP.GTX. Please take care everyone - remember that GPS and this data are no substitute for good paper maps, and you will see that the village positions may be inaccurate to a mile or more. There is plenty of scope to improve this mapping, including adding more towns into UGANDA.WAW. * Jeroen was the first to register GPSS or GPSSppc from Uganda.

United Arab Emirates

These 15 maps and 9 sounds cover all the UAE and Qatar.
Over 700 villages are included in the verbal description of position spoken as "village" and as UAE.GTX suitable for a copy to GPSS.GTX. A demonstration is included in UAE.NME.
