32-bit Version of GPSS.EXE
This GPSS.EXE is for those in direct contact with Robin. It was provided
here as a debugging aid to help diagnose problems such as suspected
bugs in Microsoft Windows 98 v2. This bugs seem to have been cleared.
The Baseline GPSS.EXE and all pre-release copies of GPSS.EXE are still 16-bit
applications compiled with Visual Basic Version 2. There are many reasons for
this: one being the size of code generated. GPSS.EXE v4.92b is 448,059 bytes,
but the same code compiled with Visual Basic Version 5 is 1,200,128 bytes.
This version, named GPSS32.EXE should run under any of the 32 bit Operating
Systems, such as 95, 98, etc - if put in the normall GPSS directory.
Download GPSS32X.EXE Version 4.92b 21st October 1999 (32-bit)
GPSS32X.EXE is 417,704 bytes and expands into GPSS32.EXE at 1,200,128 bytes.
IT IS NOT CURRENTLY PLANNED TO SUPPORT GPSS.EXE 32-BIT.

Notes on GPSS Version 4.6 Dec 97 and later
These notes relate to Version 4.6 of GPSS and later issues.
Version 4.6 supports facilities such as linkage from GTX
place names to sound files. It also supports More Information as
Multimedia AVI files - if you have DISVIDEO below working.
Version 4.6k provides additional support for touch screens - with the
additional files in CONTROLS.EXE below, and greater support for
other languages including Mandarin. Packet Radio Callsign facilities are
added for testing. 4.6L provides better touch screen - keyboard support.
4.6N includes better initiation of Rockwell Zodiac receivers by use
of file GPSSLAST.DAT with INITROCK on first line. 4.6 (29 Sep)
includes ability to default to metric units on startup
by presence of any file with name METRIC.CFG. It also includes better Route
Guidance Instruction logic and RGIMAN - reached via Control-C - for those
wishing to experiment with RGI. Map matching options are enabled now.
It provides new RGIMAN facility. Please see documentation update for RGI.
Additional support is provided for UK tiled mapping down to 1:5,000.
Bug fixed for use in UK east of 1.5E. Speed dial handles kmph or mph.
Before trying this version with AVI files, download and test the
Multimedia Support files VIDISK1, 2, 3 below.
Version 4.6i and later now support map rotation - you may also wish to download
ROTATER.EXE to help you make rotated maps.
This software is for those in contact with Robin.
RGI.EXE self extracts into standard TXT,BMP and WAV files used by RGIMAN.
Download RGI.EXE from FTP site
RGI.EXE is 191,181 bytes.
The following program may assist in the generation of rotated map images.
It needs ROTATES.BMP of at least 800x800 pixels, and generates 8 rotated
maps 0ROTATE.BMP .. 7ROTATE.BMP. Only the unrotated map 0ROTATE need be calibrated.
ROTATER.EXE is not self-extracting, but the actual program of 7,743 bytes.
Click here to download ROTATER.EXE from FTP site
The following self-extracting file shows how to link a place
into an AVI file :
Download FREDS.EXE from FTP site
FREDS.EXE is 13,575 bytes and expands into GPSS.MOR, FREDS.MOR, etc.
Upgrade using VB4 and Multimedia Video : VIDISK1,2,3
Old versions of GPSS.EXE were compiled with Visual Basic Version 2 (VB2).
Robin is now exploiting later versions of VB in order to play multimedia AVI
video files from GPSS, and to link directly into CD-ROM products such as PM3.
The three downloads below, enable you to create a standard Windows installation disk set of three floppy disks. They contain VB4 DLLs, etc which install into \WINDOWS\SYSTEM to support VB4 applications including those that display multimedia AVI files. A small test program DISVIDEO.EXE is included with a small ROBINHI.AVI file. Running DISVIDEO should play the video files in DISVIDEO.CFG
- 3 times ROBINHI.AVI. We suggest you do as follows :
- prepare 3 directories : C:\VIDISK1, C:\VIDISK2, C:\VIDISK3
- download files into each directory. e.g. VIDISK1.EXE
- Run VIDISK1.EXE etc to self-extract files
- Delete VIDISK1.EXE etc. so you only have the extracted files.
- Copy each directory to a floppy disks labelled DISVIDEO 1,2,3.
You now have the 3 floppy disks, with the first holding SETUP.EXE.
Load the first disk into your target multimedia PC, running Windows 3.1,
3.11, NT or 95, and RUN A:\SETUP.EXE - then follow the instructions.
Running DISVIDEO.EXE should play the video. You now have the required support files for other applications compiled with VB4.
ALLOW AT LEAST AN HOUR TO DOWNLOAD THESE FILES.
DOWNLOAD VIDISK1.EXE (1,384,876 bytes)
DOWNLOAD VIDISK2.EXE (1,392,047 bytes)
DOWNLOAD VIDISK3.EXE (93,848 bytes)
The following low quality video clips are for testing playback of full screen 640x480 video from ROBINHY.AVI and a smaller, more efficiently packed MPG file ROBINHI.MPG. Both are held in the self extracting file ROBINHY.EXE.
Allow up to an hour for this download.

Upgrade of GPSS.EXE v4.4
Recent changes to GPSS.EXE include improvement to analysis of recorded data and confirmation
on exit after the Esc key. Other changes since Version 4.3 include: support
for Irish, UTM and Military Grid, in addition to Lat/Lon and UK Grid; support for
Tripmate GPS receiver initiation; Route Guidance by voice through up to 100
intermediate waypoints. You should also download additional data in self-extracting 44EXTRAS.EXE which contains the UKA map, waypoint icons, GPSS.HLP online help, SUREEXIT.WAV sound, etc. More detail is available below.
GPSS45k.EXE contained a pre-issue of Version 4.5 for those in contact with Robin.
It provides improved diagnostics for GPS/Cellphone based security devices. It also
includes support for display size larger than 640 x 480 VGA. Hitting the Ctrl-V key
will move the fixed controls at the bottom of the display (on 640x480) to the bottom
of a 800x600 screen. This can also be used to hide the controls when running at
VGA resolution. If you wish to change the default startup resolution from VGA to
800x600 then simply create any file with the name 800600.CFG - and GPSS will
switch to this resolution on startup. Note that this feature is of value to those
of you adding your own 800x600 resolution maps. The free GPSS maps on this site
are currently 640x480. These 640x480 images can be automatically expanded
to 800x600 resolution. This mode is toggled on or off with Control - Z. It may also be configured on at startup by the presence of any file named MAPZOOM.CFG.
Other changes include the ^ GPS Engineering Display, and Control - C to switch
on the Control Form. This can also be done by clicking on the low - left lat/lon box.
This Version 4.5k of GPSS.EXE dated 3rd July 97, fixes bugs such as
incorrect handling of GSV messages shown by the ^ GPS Engineering Display, and
map selection in response to Z and X keys. It supports the MAPDRIVE interface - see below. $ toggles selection of CD-ROM mapping. When on Z and X
select a new scale of map. See MapDrive below. Supports Sony IPS 760 interface.
GPSS45k.EXE self extracts into GPSS.EXE at 469,272 bytes.
MAPDRV.EXE expands into Pre-Release MAPDRIVE.EXE Version 1d at 15,717 bytes, and a text file MAPDRIVE.CFG. These files should be copied into \GPSS04 with the other GPSS software. MapDrive is for initial experiments with SA4, PM3 and other Mapping Products, by those in e-mail contact with Robin. MapDrive was written very recently, so more work is needed. However, feedback from testers should speed up the process of getting it usable. Run SA4 then MAPDRIVE. You can start by using MAPDRIVE with SA4 to make a GPSS-compatible map. Run at 640x480 screen. Map scale is known to be incorrect, but will be easily fixed. Map size should be 634x442 but this may depend on SA4 configuration. If it seems to function OK
(ie. display the required map and generate MAPDRIVE.BMP,DES,TXT files) try using it with GPSS. Get the car into the USA somewhere (live GPS or playback of NME file) then hit $ - which should generate an SA4 map around the car. The scale
will be fixed, incorrect, the process will be slow - but all these should be easily fixed.
If PM3 is running instead of SA4 it will generate a map, but not save it.
See the example MAPDRIVE.CFG file which is self explanatory. The scale settings
may not be correct yet, but you may be able to correct them.

Older 'Tried and Trusted' Versions of GPSS
Many copies of these older versions of GPSS software have been distributed
within the UK (approx one million of the two million copies were Version 4 Sep 96).
If you have problems running a later version, it is always useful to have something to fall back on - if only to help diagnose the problem.
This particular set of files are based upon the Version 4.1 (December 96) release of data, but the older Version 4 (September 96) release of GPSS.EXE.
If you download this correctly, GPSSV4.EXE should be 2,858,338 bytes and
dated 14th Feb 97 at 12:37. It should contain many files including 17 .BMP files.
DOWNLOAD GPSSV4.EXE from Alternative Site (2,764,394 bytes)
uploaded again on 26 Jan 2004 based on old floppy disk archives.
Old gpssv4.exe was 2,858,338 bytes. This is 2,764,394 bytes and
holds the old GPSS v4 Baseline from 23rd September 1996.
TESTMAPS.EXE if you are into adding map data
TESTMAPS.EXE is a little DOS application which may be useful in checking
through the map files if you have reached the stage of adding or modifying
maps, and files such as GTX and GEO. It should be installed into the GPSS
directory, and will simply go through a series of tests - such as counting commas
- and stop with a suitable error message if it finds something wrong.
TESTMAPS.EXE is 44,966 bytes and it is compressed into the self-extracting
TESTMAP1.EXE of 34,873 bytes.

LHA.EXE for expansion of .LZH files
Some of you may find this utility of use. I use it instead of PKZIP/PKUNZIP
since it packs a little more onto a floppy disk. Run LHA from DOS for help.
To expand files from COUNTRY.LZH run LHA X COUNTRY.
